Burger King reduces menu to one item for a day

'Having a choice matters' underlines the importance of democracy

Burger King Austria and the advertising agency Jung von Matt DONAU have launched a bold campaign to highlight the importance of democracy. Ahead of Austria’s elections on 29 September, customers at Burger King were able to order just one item off the menu (the Whopper).

Hidden cameras captured people’s reactions to the lack of choice and their dissatisfaction with not being able to order other items. They also revealed the change in their reactions once the reasoning behind the reduced menu was explained. Jan-Christoph Küster, Managing Director of Burger King Austria, commented in a press release:

‘Burger King is at the heart of society. Our doors are open to everyone who wants to choose from a wide selection. On the occasion of the elections, we feel it is important to contribute and encourage eligible Austrians to use their vote on September 29, 2024.’
